Cumin
Cumin is a widely used spice, finding perhaps its highest concentration in the cuisines of Mexico, Vietnam, and India. The plant from which the dried seeds (the part used in cuisine) come is the Cuminum cyminum, which grows 1 to 2 feet tall. It is a member of the parsley family. Historically, some traditions have held that a bride and groom who carry cumin (in seed form) throughout their wedding will have a happy and fortuitous future together. Interesting.
